30 October 2009 - One giant leap...

If over the last few days Sandra has been taking small steps on the road to recovery, yesterday she took one giant leap forward.

From the very onset she demonstrated not only an amazing level of perception, but much of her recall, character and personality is beginning to shine through.

With this being the seventh week of her stay in hospital she is still amazed as she begins to comprehend the length of time that has passed and we spend much of he time catching up on many of the events that have taken place over the last few weeks using photos we had taken as an aide memoir.

Her level of interaction has been fantastic with her engaging in clear and cohesive conversation which after a while leaves her feeling tired and needing time to recuperate.

Physically her strength is continuing to improve with her able to get in and out of bed virtually unaided, although still needing some accompaniment while walking short distances and although still waiting on an assessment to remove the tracheotomy is able to digest semi-solid food and liquid drinks conventionally.

All in all she is beginning to look and sound like the Sandra we have all known and loved of old.
Please continue to give thanks with us for all that God has done in bringing her this far in answer to prayers. Also give thanks for the skill and the care of the medical care team who have been looking after Sandra, that God would bless them immensely.

Also please continue to pray over Sandra's purpose and destiny in God, that all that has has been taken from her will be restored and that all she has been created to become will be established according to his eternal plans and purposes.

Thanks once again for standing with us through your prayers and messages of support we appreciate them all.

28 October 2009 - Becoming spatially aware

Following a couple of good days of stability, Sandra continues to improve continuing on semi-solid food and now fully able to feed herself independently.

Today I was able to take her for a brief walk off the ward just to sample some fresh air.

As we walked along the corridor she was taking keen note of her environment, with us having to stop every few steps so she could look at the notices and posters on the wall (I think that was the nurse in her just wanting to assess her environment)

When we got outside she looked up and breathed in the crispy afternoon air, I said to her 'that smells good doesn't it?' she nodded her head in agreement and just savoured the moment.

Later back at the bedside as we played some of the music you have been listening to on the website, again she connected with the songs of worship in the same way we had seen her do previously, only this time she mouthed some of the words of the songs as the music filled the air around her bedside.

Afterwards she said its worship songs like these that get you through the hard times - I could only agree.

Clearly becoming more spatially aware and taking note of her environment, its great to see some of her inquisitiveness coming back to her.

Again we continue to give thanks for her ongoing improvement and continue praying for this to continue.

26 October 2009 - Thanksgiving

Looking back over the last week we have much to give thanks for in answer to prayer.

A week ago Sandra's blood pressure levels were at alarmingly high levels, since Wednesday of last week, her blood pressure levels inexplicably dropped and stabilized at at normal levels.

A week ago she was still being fed via a nasal tube, today for the first time the nasal feed tube was officially removed and Sandra is now able to consume semi-solid food and feeding herself

Today she was also able to take some very strong and confident steps (albeit with support) and walk to the bathroom and back.

Mentally although a litle hazy at times during her periods of lucidy she is demonstrating increasing and improving levels of comprehension and personality.

All in all we have so much to be thankful for all that God has done in answer to prayers.

As you continue to pray for Sandra over the coming week, please pray for the total and timely removal of the tracheotomy as this in itself represents a physical and psychological milestone.

As you pray I would also ask you pray in particular over Sandra's destiny and purpose.

Please pray that every aspect of her character, personality, mental, physical and spiritual well-being will be recovered and restored and that her latter years will indeed be greater than her former years - Thanks once again for standing with us.
