08 November 2009 - Transformation and transfer
Over the last few days we have again been able to have Sandra at home for a few hours each day. Its seems that being in the familiar surroundings of home causes her to operate in a much more intuitive mode, with her doing many things which would have required much effort in the unfamiliar environment of the hospital being executed with very little effort.
She has been able to successfully complete a few complex procedure like retrieve the appropriate contact from a preprogrammed speed dial number I had programmed into her phone and being able to tell me verbally how to do it when I asked her to repeat the process some hours later.
Her current rate of progress is creating an amazing transformation and has resulted in her being placed on the transfer list to leave hospital to begin the process of rehabilitation.
We give thanks once again to God for all he has so graciously done and for all your prayers and messages of support, again we rejoice!Over the next few weeks please pray for the ongoing development and improvement of her cognitive skills and physical strength as she embarks on the next phase on the journey of her recovery.
Please would you also especially remember the following people in your prayers this week.
Sandra James - who was taken into hospital this week and about to undergo heart surgery, pray that this will be a success and she will make a full recovery.
Please pray for
Anne Bruce - another patient who was admitted into hospital at the same time and ward as Sandra for treatment for a brain tumour. Pray that as she undergoes further surgery this week that she also will make a full recovery and that God would comfort the family.
04 November 2009 - Day 53 - Home coming
Today marks another significant milestone in the journey of Sandra's recovery as it was today the medical team felt confident enough to allow her to come home for half a day.
53 days ago she left home being rushed under emergency in an ambulance to hospital, today she took a leisurely drive home in the family car.
It was quite an emotional moment as the last time she had been home she was being rushed away to hospital in ambulance.
On arriving home she did a quick survey of the house to make sure everything was still in good order and after having satisfied herself sat down to have something to eat before going upstairs to have a good sleep in her own bed. The look on her face was a real picture (but she wont allow me to publish those, so you'll have to use your imagination!)
As a family all we could do was give thanks to God for his goodness and all that he has done in answer to prayer.
Later on we spoke a lot about what happened that day, the ensuing events and how you have all been praying, sending your messages of good will for her recovery.
She was deeply touched and conveyed her appreciation and thankfulness but in many ways is still reflecting on how gracious God has been to us as a family.
Understandably the hardest part of today was having to take her back to hospital so she could continue treatment for her recovery.
As you give thanks with us please also pray for Sandra's peripheral vision as an initial assessment suggests she has slight impairment to the left hand of her vision, which they will take a closer look at over the next few weeks.
We are praying an believing that as we declare 'that Sandra will recover all that has been taken from her' this includes her total recovery and good health of her eyesight.
01 November 2009 - Unconventional
The milestones on Sandra's road to recovery have certainly been anything but conventional and this week has certainly been no exception.
After weeks of waiting, consultations and deliberating I am glad to report that the tracheotomy (like Elvis) has left the building!
In a state of utter irritation and unable to wait for further consultations which were due for later this week, Sandra inexplicably pulled the whole tracaheotomy assembly out much to the shock of the staff in attendance at the time. After a brief examination it was decided to try leaving it out and that as they say is history.
The wound is beginning to heal and she can now speak albeit very softly without the aid of a speach valve.
Physically she is continuing to grow stronger gaining greater and greater independence.
Its also great to begin to hear her share her thoughts and reflections as she begins to recollect, with some aspects being very strong and vivid with others still being a little hazy.
We are truly great for all that God has done in, for and through Sandra and continue to pray pray for her destiny and purpose in God.
